Adoption of Slums

Geeta Nagar, a hub of sprawling hutments is situated on a prime land in the heart of South Mumbai and has a population of over 40,000 slum dwellers. Helping Hand in Service, a registered Trust with its primary focus of covering formal and non formal education, health care and vocational skills training for under privileged children, youth and young women has adopted over a hundred families here and with the help of SAGE hopes to widen its horizons. SAGE Foundation has started a fund raising drive and will impart quality education to the children and vocational skills to their families for self sustenance. Nutritious meals would be provided to the children. For most parents this is the only enticement to send them to school as they cannot afford even one square meal a day for their children.
The pilot models of adopted villages and slums will be replicated all over Mumbai and the surrounding villages. The speed with which this can be achieved will depend on the quantum of donations received. SAGE has all the systems and human resources in place as well as the network, connectivity and the credibility.
